A Halloween activity for the Granby Zoo

As part of its fall offering, the Granby Zoo wanted an original, family friendly and self guided Halloween activity that could be seamlessly integrated into the site. The goal was to deliver an experience driven by a strong story that would surprise visitors, extend their visit and enrich the on site experience.

As part of its fall offering, the Granby Zoo wanted an original, family friendly and self guided Halloween activity that could be seamlessly integrated into the site. The goal was to deliver an experience driven by a strong story that would surprise visitors, extend their visit and enrich the on site experience.

Their business goals

  • Attract families during the Halloween period
  • Animate the site with a self guided interactive activity
  • Extend length of stay
  • Surprise visitors with an original experience
  • Showcase the zoo through an engaging story

Our creativity

From the very beginning, the Granby Zoo wanted to offer a Halloween activity that respected its family audience by steering clear of pure horror. We therefore developed a mysterious, playful and fantastical world inspired by cabinets of curiosities and explorers’ tales. The character of Baron Horacio quickly became the narrative thread of the experience: an eccentric adventurer whose story guides visitors throughout the route. The experience unfolds across six themed stations, each tied to a region of the world, a fascinating creature and a distinct narrative atmosphere.

Our tactics

To bring this world to life, we designed and installed six game stations spread across the zoo grounds, naturally integrated into the visitor route. Using our mobile app, participants are guided from one station to the next, receive instructions, take on challenges and validate their answers independently.

To support the rollout of the project, we also produced a promotional video featuring Baron Horacio, strengthening the visibility of the route and its universe even before visitors arrived on site.

The result

The route offered the zoo an original Halloween activity that was highly appreciated by families. The mysterious storyline and interactive challenges successfully captured visitors’ attention throughout the experience, increasing length of stay and enriching the traditional zoo visit.

The world of Baron Horacio made a strong impression on children’s imaginations, positioning the Granby Zoo as a creative and innovative destination, even outside the summer season.

Synopsis

Legend has it that a certain Baron Horacio, an eccentric adventurer of the 19th century, travelled the globe aboard his gigantic airship, the Ambikair, in search of the planet’s most frightening, strange or misunderstood creatures.

He did not capture the strongest animals, but rather those that sent shivers through local legends: cursed snakes, shadow eating bats, invisible chameleon lizards, flesh feeding insects.

But on his final flight, on a Halloween night, a supernatural storm struck his aircraft above Granby. The Ambikair crashed inside the zoo grounds.

The cages burst open. The creatures escaped. And worse still, the spirits tied to their legends have also returned to life.

Your mission: track down the Baron’s creatures and uncover why some things were better left forgotten.
